I have joined the board of #LoveOzYA as a Director of Communications.
I have built my understanding of the world from books and owe my appetite for reading to the outstanding YA I read when I was a kid.
I can thank my school librarians (Ms Marquad and Mr Castles) for always ensuring there was Australian YA on my reading menu. As a young reader and writer, it was incredibly empowering to know Isobelle Carmody, for example, started writing Obernewtyn when she was sixteen. And that she was Australian!
I want to ensure aspiring YA writers feel supported and young readers have opportunities to see themselves reflected in literature.
This is where #LoveOzYA comes in. #LoveOzYA champions Australian YA creators, amplifies diverse stories that might otherwise be drowned out in a global market and builds connections between authors, readers, educators and industry.
#LoveOzYA strengthens our local publishing ecosystem so young readers can keep discovering books that speak directly to them.
